There is one thing that can make a big difference when buying…any new car, truck…or SUV…? The new car warranty. This is part of the reason you bought something new. You wanted the warranty too. All manufacturers are required by Federal law to provide a Bumper-to-Bumper warranty on new cars for at least 36 months and 36,000 miles. No exceptions. They can make it longer if they so desire. BMW is the notable exception…4 years and 50,000 miles. So what’s covered under the bumper-to-bumper vs. the power train warranty??/ Well let’s explore that.
The bumper-to-bumper covers virtually any part on the car that fails from “Normal” use. If it does, it’s replace, parts and labor by the dealer of that manufacturer. You can NOT use your local mechanic for warranty repairs.!! Dealer Only. So you have no worries about the performance of a new car. Or for that matte a used car that is still under warranty. The new car warranty automatically transfers to the next owner if the car is sold before it expires. A great advantage to you if you change cars during that period.
Some bumper to bumper warranties now cover such things as tire replacement, windshield wiper replacement, brake pad and wheel alignment during the first 12-18 thousand miles. Not sure why this is covered by Ford on DIESEL Only, but it is. So if you are considering a vehicle replacement…you must consider the value of having warranty protection on the car. It is extremely important because repairs are very expensive today. If you’re not buying new, then strongly consider an aftermarket warranty for your purchase. Most warranties are really good today and you need to have them reviewed for you before you leave the dealership.
