Nissan will roll-out it’s 50th Anniversary model of the 240Z in just a couple of months. The 370Z has been around since 2009….and it refuses to die. last year Nissan sold just 4614 in the US…but that didn’t stop the company from continuing to produce it. In fact when the 240 first appeared in 1969…it was a major sensation. The styling was spectacular and the demand was thru the roof. There was a buying frenzy like you can’t believe. I remember seeing my first one on the freeway to Riverside,Ca. going back to school on a Sunday afternoon. It was a gorgeous car. Every kid drooled over it.
Now fast forward 50 years and we have a car which amazingly is still being built. By this time with any other manufacturer…it would have been a goner”. When you get inside a new 370Z, it’s incredibly inept….In the base model…there’s no Navigation…in fact it’s like sliding into the seat of a 30 year old car…Not what Nissan had in mind I’m sure. The cars suspension telegraphs every small pebble in the road. Very annoying. Steering is too light and the sound from the exhaust should be muffled.
Sadly…the car is almost a clone of the original, in all the wrong ways. Back then you expected to have trouble with the A/C and Choke….but not now. This is one model that should have gone quietly into the night. But it is still hear for the diehard few.
