American Honda Will Break Out New Rides In the Super Bowl

American Honda has some new commercials with two new stars…The Acura NSX and the Newly revised Honda CR-V. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will try to convince someone who has the rights to the first North American NSX sports car to give up that car to him. Sounds like a good start to something funny! Then Matthew Broderick will reprise his role as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but this time playing hooky from school to ride around town in his brand new Honda CR-V. Honda is trying to drive traffic to it’s Honda and Acura showrooms to rebui sales lost last year after the earthquake in Japan. We want to entertain the audience but also engage them to want more…in person with our dealers. Sales need to be rebuilt, we’re hoping that these Super Bowl commercials will lead the way back to better sales, better traffic and regained market share. 2012 Portland International Auto Show Starts Thursday, January 26th!!

Hundreds of cars will be display this year at the Portland International Auto Show. In fact Jeep will have an incredible 30,000 square feet of space inside the convention center for a ride and drive display. “Camp Jeep” as it’s called is the first ever and it will be amazing I am told. Toyota, Scion, Subaru, General Motors, Volkswagen and Kia will also have “Ride and Drive” areas available. Theirs will actually be outside directly across from the Convention Center.
New 2013 vehicles that will make their debut at the show include: the New Ford Escape, Dodge Dart, Honda’s redesigned CR-V and Chevrolet’s New Malibu Eco.
The Eco Center will also return for 2012, which is a corral of vehicles all achieving mileage estimates of 35 mpg or higher. Don’t miss the New Toyota Prius V. It gets 50 miles per gallon and should be a show stopper.
Finally, the “Great Outdoors” section will feature vehicles with on and off-road capabilities, plus lots of camping and outdoor accessories to boot.
This years show will be fun for the whole family. Doors open this Thursday, Jan 26th at 10am. Adults $12.00. Ages 7-12 $7.00. Kids under 6 are “Free”. There is parking at the Convention Center for $9.00 per car.

Ethanol Subsidy Comes to a Halt as of January 1, 2012

After 30 years of subsidies to farmers and car makers for vehicles which will run on ethanol…it all came to a whimpering halt on January 1st. With no fan fare at all….the subsidy is gone. Experts say it will have little effect on sales of those vehicles. Now there should be a lot less ethanol produced. Maybe we can get back our , corn-on-the-cobb again this Summer.
Didn’t happen fast enough to suit most folks. It was a bad idea that has cost consumers billions of dollars for nothing. Another government intrusion which was all wrong from the beginning. It was gasoline in 1900…and it’s gasoline once again.

Yes… the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is the “Four Wheeler of the Year” according to Four Wheeler Magazine. They’ve been conducting this competition since 1974. The competition takes place over five days and 1,000 mile grueling course.The competition runs every 4×4 over an amazing number of road and off road situations. Gravel, Rocks, Mud and some places Man was probably not supposed to go, are tested.
The 2012 Rubicon took top honors in almost every category of off-roading. A pretty amazing feat given the competition from around the world. It wasn’t all about the 4×4 power train either. The comfort and interior design were also taken into consideration.

Automotive Forcast Looks Good! UP 5% for the First Quarter

North American production will increase about 5% during the first quarter, based on strengthening sales and continued recovery from Asian natural disasters. The better news is…this increasing trend should continue thru the rest of 2012.
Tracy Handler, an analyst with IHS Automotive, is predicting 3.6 million units to be sold in the first Quarter of 2012. This would immediately gear annual production to increase 5% or more.
Ford is announcing a 3% increase in production for Q1. It’s conservative, but it may be the right approach to take. No one wants to get caught with inventory that is either slow to sell or unsold.
Honda on the other hand is in a position of catch-up. They will increase their total production by about 11% !!. But remember they were dramatically hit by the Japanese quake. And the introduction of the new Civic was delayed by 6 months because of it.
IHS goes on to predict total production for 2012 at 13.8 million vehicles. Most analysts seem to agree with this number. If they are right things will go smoothly with sales and inventory about on a match. If they are wrong…well we’ll have to wait and see.

Just when you thought it was safe to buy the next super sub-compact car now available…it gets torpedoed by the NHTSA. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just given the lowest possible safety rating to the 500…3 stars. It is the lowest rating yet for any new 2012 make or model. This is not the kind of news you want to read about in the trade Journals if you’re Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the Chrysler Group.
So what do you do now? The car is already underwhelming sales expectations. They have 8 months worth of inventory on the ground and still bringing in more of the same vehicle. It appeared that the 500 might do well, with sales that were promising back in May. But the curtain seems to have come down and very little activity is now being seen. It may just be that the super sub-compact vehicle is just not right for most American buyers.

Well you will coming next Spring, 2012. The Subaru BRZ is expected to raise the image of Subaru overall. It goes on sale in April, 2012.Price in the mid-20′s. This vehicle was closely designed with the engineers at Toyota Motors. The sister version is the Toyota 86, which just appeared at the Tokyo Auto Show.Toyota owns 16.5 per cent of Subaru parent, Fuji Heavy industries.
The Subaru and Toyota vehicles will both carry the 200 HP Subaru Boxer engine on board. The exterior design was handled by Toyota. Both companies say the joint venture went very well, but no plans for any future co-operation at this date.

GM Touts the New Malibu Eco as a Gas and Money Saver!!

The Eco friendly version of the next generation of Chevy Malibu will carry an incredibly low $25,995.00 starting price tag, including destination charge. This is $5,000 less then the current Ford Fusion Hybrid. The Malibu will get 28 City and 36 Hwy Mpg. Pretty good in the neighborhood.The Fusion does get 41 City…but is it worth the $5,0000 extra to do it?? No. That’s 3 years worth of driving at 15,000 miles per year and $3.40 per gallon.
The Eco type engine from both Chevy and Ford, is going to be a big deal. It better be. The Federal Government just came out with the new CAFE target of 54.5 Mpg by 2025. That’s a pretty tall order. But one that may be achievable with new engines like these from the “Big Boys”.
